Vase of Cultural Earth

2020 Biennial North Queensland Ceramic Award Finalist

Practicing within a community pottery studio, our group is fortunate to have access to multiple Earth mediums and techniques drawn from various cultures.

The work is a convergence of mediums that manifested as a vase, only use Earths and nothing else. Kiln fired temperatures to 1280 Celsius degree, this gives the ceramic its true texture and waterproof qualities.

The vase incorporates six porcelains and stoneware applied in layers.

The intricate designs of the vase employs techniques similar to those found in of ancient Japanese ceramics ‘Nerikomi’,  African Swazi candles ‘ Thousand Flowers’ and Italian glass art “Millifiore”

The placement of these artful techniques upon on the vase formed a simple, powerful and honest multi-culture signature.
